One of the characters that'll appear later in Aku. They're a Voca, an aquatic species that has to wear exoskeletons to survive outside of their ocean.
The Illusionist is a title they got during their travels. Vee also calls them Illu. Since their language is based on bioliminiscence their true name is a blue/green flashing glow. Thaaat's something most can't... pronounce? So they just go by Illusionist.
They've been... not exactly exiled, but strongly discouraged from returning home due to unknown reasons. They travel around and make money by entertaining people. They use nanobots for that, little robots that look kinda like bugs. They can use them to create illusions, hence the name.
They use that... mostly for entertaining purposes. Sometimes for stuff that's kinda illegal, but they'd vehemently deny and try to distract from that if asked. They're not exactly a criminal, but not too fond of the law either.
As for the range of the illusions, they can create perfect replicas of smaller things. Bigger things tend to look obviously fake.
