Dream Eaters live in the dream realm. They can enter the waking world if they're strong enough, but they don't have a solid form like that. To get back they have to enter the mind of a sleeping creature again. Dream catchers can also rip them out of the dream realm, if they get stuck in one. If a dream catcher dissappears overnight it usually means a Dream Eater got stuck in it, had to wiggle around undignified to try and get it loose then give up and rip it off the ceiling and return to the dream realm and ask another Dream Eater to get it off. And then usually deny that they got stuck.
Their body colours range from black to white. It depends of what kind of dreams they eat. Eating good dreams results in lighter colours while eating nightmares results in darker colours. What kind of dreams they eat usually just depends on personal preverance of what tastes better.
They can have markings, stripes and moons are the most common.
Eating dreams isn't harmful to the creature they targeted, they just wake up in the middle of the night and can't remember what they dreamed of.
Foals can only start to enter the dreams of others when their "vessel" or outer layer fully formed.
If the outer layer of a Dream Eater gets damaged they have to spend energie repairing it before they can enter dreams again. Otherwise their true form or "essence" can get distorted, which can be quiet painfull. They can also completely fade away in worst cases.
If a Dream Eater dies only the outer layer stays behind.
Their manes kinda feel like very fine hair, but like it's not quiet there. Their bodies feel a bit like porcelain but are able to bend and distort and quiet unatural ways.
If you want to make a Dream Eater than go for it. This is just a basic ref sheet, of you wanna make some things different, like giving your dream eater a cutie mark or horns etc, just do it. Go ham, have fun. Just don't make adoptables and stuff.
